Tick-Tock — Privacy Policy
Tick-Tock (“the app”) is a personal activity, notes, and time-tracking app that runs entirely on your device. This policy explains what the app stores, when anything leaves your phone, and the choices you have. It is written to be read by a person, not just a lawyer.
The short version
- Everything you log — activities, notes, health, call/notification-derived entries, and precise location history — is stored locally on your device in an on-device database.
- The developer operates no server and never receives your data.
- Data leaves your phone only when you choose to enable an optional integration or cloud backup, and then it goes to that service under your own account, not to us.
- You can delete your data at any time by clearing it in-app or uninstalling.
What the app stores on your device
- Activities & audit log derived from sources you enable (see Permissions).
- Notes / journal content you write.
- Tasks, tags, and projects you create or sync.
- Health data (workouts, sleep, distance) imported from Health Connect, if enabled.
- Location history for saved places / outings, if background tracking is on.
- App settings and caches.
This data lives in a local SQLite database and on-device key/value storage. It is not transmitted to the developer. On Android, app data is excluded from cloud auto-backup and device-to-device transfer (backup is disabled at the OS level).
Permissions and why they are used
Each permission is optional and powers an on-device feature. Nothing is uploaded to the developer.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Notification access | Detect app events (e.g. calls) to build activity drafts, on-device. |
| Call log | Log incoming/outgoing/missed calls into your audit draft. |
| Usage access | Turn Android app-usage into time slots. |
| Location (incl. background) | Track outings by leaving/returning to saved places. |
| Health Connect | Import workouts, sleep, and distance as draft activities. |
| Contacts | Label calls/events with names, on-device. |
| Camera / Microphone | Capture photos and voice notes you create. |
When data leaves your device (optional integrations)
The app connects to third parties only if you enable that integration, using your own account or API key. We do not proxy or receive this data.
- Google (Sign-In, Drive, Firebase): your Google identity; backup bundles you upload to your private Drive app folder; shared-list contents you create. Used for backups and the Shared Lists feature.
- OpenAI: audio you record for voice notes, sent for transcription — only if you add your own OpenAI API key and use voice capture.
- Notion: notes/tasks and the database you select — only if you connect Notion.
- Todoist: tasks you sync — only if you connect Todoist.
- Toggl Track: time entries, projects, and tags — only if you connect Toggl.
Each third party processes that data under its own privacy policy. Review those policies for the services you enable.
Backups and encryption
- Cloud backups go to your private Google Drive app folder, accessible only to you and this app.
- Backups are not end-to-end encrypted by default — they are protected by your Google account. You can turn on “Encrypt entire backup” in the app to additionally scramble the whole backup with a passphrase only you know. If you lose that passphrase, an encrypted backup cannot be recovered.
- API keys/tokens are stored in the device keystore and, when included in a backup, are passphrase-encrypted.
Data sharing and selling
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for advertising. We do not receive it in the first place.
Data retention and deletion
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can:
- Clear specific data in the app (e.g. disable Health Connect to remove imported entries), or
- Uninstall the app to remove local data, and
- Delete cloud backups from your Google Drive, and revoke the app’s access in your Google account settings.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change. Material changes will be surfaced in-app.
